former dearest in response to your questions following me around and up and down before they drive me to ground i will not admit colour i will not sing that refrain i will not wear plaid on sunday and i will not do that again the fires you set have long since faded our fabric witness of wear and tear (inter-human damages) insisting on silk and egyptian cotton it was not taste you lacked nor desire ambition or conviction it was not your way with words or the lines in your face your everyday humdrum or your changes of pace the mornings noons and afters we spent your bickering or being late with the rent your dramatic love of black and white this or that plight constantly the shades drawn your indifference to natural light the lilacs you kept the books you read your jam on toast your eternal ghost your keeping me up at night your oversight the days you fell in between your fear of the number sixteen your idle hours your ice flowers your never ending spring you having to sing your warmth and candour your radiance and splendour the more i track and trace replay and face think through and redo i cannot find balance centre peace or tranquillity that zero gravity like the seasons a change gripped in us sometimes we hold on to letting go not wanting to think to feel no more seconds to steal no more moments to heal paper echoes golden cranes and waiting games unimpressed by pressure the tricks of skilled hearts the summer saults in mid winter autumn reflects in all you do relentlessly it chimes through.
